My HEN is not a HEN (cont. from last night "my hen is crowing" post)

All 3 look like roos to me too... Sorry! On another note, sometimes hens do crow! Therefore you are NOT a crazy lady

I had gotten a salmon Fav. that is a little over 2 years old. I got her home, and the next morning we heard the strangest noise ever. I went out to figure out what was going on, and there she was "crowing" away! She didn't lay any eggs for over a month, and I thought I had gotten taken over with this one. Well, she's now probably my best layer!! Sorry - got carried away, but wanted to let you know you aren't crazy

I think I see a big long sickle feather in the tail of #3. #1 has well developed hackle feathers draping over the base of the tail, but I would need a better picture of #3 to see those.

Yeah I agree #1and 2 have some telling hackle feathers. Not 100% sure on #3.

Boy it is reassuring to know I am not the only one surprised by hens who have become roos. Below is my Columbian Wyandotte--- I was sure "he" was a "she" but it looks to me "she" is a "he".

Can anyone confirm my suspicion? PS this is the one who hasn't crowed.

Look for spurs, if thay have them they are Roos, if not hens, Don't mistake the back toe. Look at the chicken Anatomy page, you will be able to see the spur. Good Luck

Roo, roo, roo and roo!

See the skinny feathers at the base of the tail that lay off to the side and then the long feathers coming out of the tail? Hens don't usually have those.
