Good afternoon,
My name is Christy and I have about 29 hens and one rooster. I have one road island red that has for some reason started walking around with her legs bent? she seems to be in good spirits will wobble to water and food and even get herself in coop but not sure why she is doing this? she has been doing it for about 3 days now. any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Christy-

If she sort of waddles like a penguin, she could be egg bound. Try looking in the "emergency and illness" section and search "egg bound" and that will give you ideas on what to do to help.

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your hen. Could be lots of things... from a disease, egg binding, bad feed or she ate something that was toxic. I would post this question in our emergency section for more help with her. Click here....

I hope you can get her back to good health soon.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your hen, X3 on post in the Emergencies forum about her. Be sure to give her a good exam if you can find anything else wrong. and pictures might help. How old is she? Has she been vaccinated for Mareks?

Welcome to BYC. Is she walking on her elbows? How old is she? Walking on elbow or hocks can be a sign of vitamin deficiency. It wouldn't hurt to start some vitamins in her water until you figure this out. Most feed stores will carry poultry vitamins.
