My Hen laid a deformed hard-boiled egg HELP ?!?!

This is good news! Like I said earlier, she may just take a bit longer than normal to bounce back.

As far as keeping her out of the coop. I would just play it by ear, not rushing her recovery. A couple of days maybe, but she'll let you know.

I think she was probably egg bound and is now needing nutrients and rest. She went through an exhausting and taxing event and just needs to recover. With you making sure she is drinking and eating, she'll be great pdq!

Keep us posted! Also, any pic's of this young lady? I'd love to see her.

Here she is in her new temporary digs until she is all better and ready to rejoin the other ladies (and gents). I made her a mash with yogurt and feed and she LOVED it!!! She is eating very well now, but still growling a bit. She has clucked a little too though, and it's the first time I've heard that from her so I'll take that as a good sign too!! Thank you very much!!!

she is beautiful! i'm glad she's feeling better. you're doing a good job.

in the pic, it seems like her beak is filed down? i'm just wondering if it is.

also, if the man has any chickens left and are not taking care of them correctly, i'd contact animal control. you saved these four little girls, but they might not have made it if they stayed with him. all the birds he has deserve the best.

I don't know about their beaks, except that all 4 have lower beaks that are longer than the upper. One of the ladies has a lower beak that is grossly overgrown, but she doesn't seem in pain, and she eats just fine so I think it maybe bothers me more than her. Unfortunately I could only get him to sell me 4, and I live in Wisconsin where chickens, cows, pigs, goats, even horses are considered livestock and by law is no way to mistreat them. I went through this when I rescued Rain, my Tennessee Walking Horse. She was 400 pounds under weight and literally on the brink of starving to death, but since horses are considered livestock here they have no rights or protection. I could prove that she was terribly neglected and abused but it didn't matter, cause she's " just a horse". I think if I tried to call someone about chickens I'd probably get fined for prank calls, especially in the little farm town I live in.
Sadder still is the fact that he wasn't limited to chickens. He had pot bellied pigs, calves, ducks, geese, all sorts of animals being kept in horrible conditions, he wouldn't sell anything but the 4 hens I got. I guess I'm thankful I got to save them, clearly by Hope's reaction to the lettuce, yogurt mash and vitamin water she has never had anything but cracked corn!!

I honestly don't know. There have been a few people on here who have had that happen but I am not sure what the end result was. I do believe some have lived, though. I am sure you could find them searching, but ovary is the only keyword I can think of you could use, right off the top of my head.

thats so sad, animals should have some sort of rights, they need to be protected, I had rescued some chickens last year from a lady who I thought has WAY TOO MANY animals and they seemed not to have the best living conditions at all, I was happy to take them, wish she was selling more
