I was sick the past two days and didn't make it out to get eggs from the nesting box. I try to get them everyday because I have an egg eater, and when I went out this morning to gather them, sure enough there was a eaten egg but also some interesting things. In the same box there was also a soft shelled egg (which I haven't had in a really long time), and this...

I have a new roo, so my first thought was an embryo, but after only 2 days?? And it doesn't really match the pictures I saw on Google. What could it be?

I don't know the answer but am curious what other people say because I found something like that inside of an egg. I thought it might be an embryo also because I have a rooster too.

It probably is an embryo then. Im new to rooster keeping so I'm clueless about things like that. Just shocking they form so quickly if that's what it is! Makes me afraid to eat the eggs if I don't get them same day...

Wow, thats really weird. Maybe it's just extra calcium???
Definitely a possibility..it's very soft and squishy though. I know calcium deposits on the outside of the egg are hard. But I'd say the inside is a whole different ball field

You know, I read about premature yolks coming out before their ready, this could be one?

It's not an embryo. An embryo needs to develop inside the egg, and it would take a week or more to get that size, plus it wouldn't be white.

I would lean more towards some extra material from the reproductive tract, or possibly the beginnings of salpingitis. Let's hope it's not that, though. If it is, you'll likely start seeing bigger chunks.

That had crossed my mind but I was hoping it wasn't the case. I have been battling a mystery illness in my flock of 14 since beginning of May. The vet, state poultry lab, and I have ruled out nearly every possible illness besides necrotic enteristis. However, that division of the poultry lab is down right now for renovation and can't test for clostridium. My vet said he couldn't do it. So we are treating for it anyway to see if they improve. I've lost two already.

If it is salpingitis, what other symptoms should I look out for other than larger chunks, and is there anything I can do for her if I can find out which one it is?

I would assume at some point she should start looking generally unwell, if that is salpingitis. You can give a strong course of antibiotics and it *may* work. I forget which kind, you'd want to search the Disease forum for it.
