Hey Everybody.
One of my Rhode Island Reds pooped out something usual earlier this evening.
Anybody have any ideas as to what this could be? She’s been perfectly healthy her entire life. Also is currently experiencing a phase of molting at the minute as you’d expect.
Please let me know if anybody has any clues at to what this may be 🙂
Thanks in advance,
Zac 🤗

Welcome to BYC. That is lash egg material, not really egg, but a product of infection, or inflammation of the oviduct or salpingitis. Hens can have this for some time, but eventually may die of it. Some people treat with antibiotics just to help extend life. Amoxicillin or Aqua Mox 250 mg for a 4-6 pound chicken given twice a day for 10 days is a usual dose. Antibiotics may or may not help once lash material is seen. Some vets may give a hormone implant to stop laying altogether for 4-6 months at a time. Here is some info about salpingitis and lash eggs:

Hi there! I just had a similar experience. I have a hen who is molting and a few days ago I found a lash egg. I believe it is her. I also noticed yesterday that she is limping a little. She seems fine besides the slight limp and I haven't found any more lash eggs. I tried to check her to see why she was limping, but I didn't want to handle her since she is molting. Nothing is swollen. I might try wrapping her in a towel and checking her that way.
