I was just rehashing the year looking at older posts of mine and i dont think i ever updated this one. As can be expected the little Miracle didn't make it and probably for the best. I still am stumped as tp why though. His mama is my broody hen. The first clutch of chicks this year she fought to stay with and raise with another hen. They sorta comothered the babies together in perfect harmony. She tries so hard to sit on any egg she finds so I know her mama instinct is in tact. Although in fairness she is about four years old and the size of a robin. She also is built like a piece of dried up beef jerky so at first I wouldn't have thought she could do it, but ill be darned if i didn't find her (before i had roosters) setting under my house on a pile of 24 eggs. I just have to assume that something was wrong with the chick. She (mama) kept the other chick. Raised it up to a beautiful black pullet now. As i said before she or whatever force did it, it was outside the nest box (over a lip that surrounds the nest box) and out on the floor of the b anty barn. So small enclosure - check, imprinting not passed - check she was still wet and less than 24 hours. I still am curious though as to what she would have been.....
