I've had my one hen, Honey, for a bit over a year now. She is the sweetest girl every and always follows the rules, and typically one of the first girls in bed at night.
I recently was away dog sitting, and my mum was watching them. When I got back Honey was missing and I found her under the ramp to the coop. I collected her and put her away. It has now been two and a half weeks and she still does this.
Now it's snowy and cold and my family will be gone a few days after Christmas to my grandparents. And our neighbor will not touch the chickens, let alone crawl under the coop to get her.
So the question I have is how do I keep her in? I have 32 chickens (will be 40 this Sunday) and I can't keep them all locked in. I have a heated waterer for inside the coop I couls use and a smaller feeder. But that feels so mean to lock her up. Do I give her a friend? I'm not too worried about her not sleeping in the perches as she seems to enjoy the ground and even sleeps on the floor in the coop. She has a best friend, Olive, who could be penned with her.
I also have a closed off area in the coop that used to hold food and bedding. It only has the summer water jugs now, but I could take them out, clean it up and set Honey and Olive in there. It's spacious and by the outlet for the heated waterer.

I think I just solved my own problem as I was asking for help there... but please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. I'll try to get a photo of the coop in the morning to give everyone an idea of what I'm talking about!

Thank you all!

Your idea to pen Honey with her friend for the few days you'll be away is actually what I would come up with. Just be sure your caretaker will see that the two have adequate food and water.

Sometimes the most obvious and simplest solution is the best one. The simpler it is, the less chance there is of things going wrong.

Yes, I think so too! I hadn't thought of it until I was typing the post. The caretaker will definitely make sure about the food and water. Though, the food and water that I'll put in lasts a few days with 12 chickens. So 2 should be good!

Thank you for the response!
