My hens are laying in the run

I use a golf ball but I have white eggs. If mine start laying in the nest furthest away from the door, I'll put the golf ball in the first one and they will start laying where I put the ball, at least for a little while after I take the ball away.

Mine always try to use the same nest unless it is too crowded. I have seen them really packed in there instead of just using another nest.

Put a golf ball in every nest....that'll 'spread the love'.
Doesn't matter what color the fakies are.

Hi everyone,

I have a small egg problem. Usually, my chickens are good girls and lay in there nesting boxes. But, there is somebody (or somebodies) that lays eggs in the run. I've gotten three in there so far. It's sort of a pain to get them, (depending on where it is laid).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I am having a similar issue. I have been finding silkie eggs in the yard and the coop has lovely and numerous nest boxes that have been used for years. One girl laid one right before my eyes yesterday walking along with the rest of the flock. Both eggs have been found out in the open. The silkies seem to have a hard time figuring things out (I have another way of aying it, but I don't want to offend any silkie lovers haha). I don't know if it is because their mobility is limited by limited wing function or if their brains are different. I know it is not vision, because they have smaller crests.

Looks like they can get up there ok....have they been messing in the nests at all?
If not, I'd stick one in there.
Is there a fake egg in each nest?
Is that one big nest or are they separated?

Yes, they messes in there before they started laying.
I have three nests, and all of them have a 'egg' except one.
