My hens are scared of the new feeder... should I paint it?

They get hungry enough, they'll brave the new feeder. Great feeder, BTW!!! Very professional and sturdy looking.

If your putting the bottom part through the mesh so the top isn't visible to the chickens it might change things. It will look more like just a raised feeder. Plus being penned in with it they won't have any choice but to be near it and get used to it.

Chickens can see color. They have better vision than we do. Unlike most animals they rely more on sight than smell to identify things.

I'd say leave it there for a week or so, the longer it is there they will start to get used to it, then try butting it inside if they seem more used to it. New things are scary.

That is a really great idea. I asked my husband to make 2 for the coops because it would give them more space inside this winter if i could remove the big feeders. How did you do the part they are eating out of?
