My Hens don’t like straw nest

Prior to my hens arriving I put straw down in nesting boxes.
They picked one box but completely emptied it of straw before laying any eggs.
Now they are laying them anywhere they feel like except the box they used initially. I have been picking up eggs from where they been roosting.
How do I get them to go back to nesting box?

How large a lip is on the nest box? If necessary increase the lip so that they can not scratch the nest material out. I personally prefer a grass hay in the nest box.

Try different materials in the nest box, and yes a good sized lip prevents scratch outs of material. Also do you have fake eggs to show them that's where they should be laying eggs?

You may need to just give it time.
How old are your birds, in weeks or months?
How long have you had them?
Higher front lip to nest(pics would help here) might help along with fake eggs.
