my hens need feathers

We removed the rooster from the hen house when the hens started losing their back feathers. Now, we are 5 months later, and they still have bald backs. We started giving them sunflower seeds to promote feather growth. But, still no real good growth. We are concerned coming into the cold weather. Is there something else we can do to promote feather growth before winter? I joked with my husband that they need sweaters! Not sure that that is a good answer though Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

More protein like scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, moist cat food, calf manna that you can get in bags at feed stores ( it's expensive but works for me) canned tuna even. Just anything like that you can throw to them to help their protein level to re-produce feather growth.
