My Hen's on strike!

I received a bantam hen and eight chicks a week ago and I have yet to see an egg.

Is this normal, and is there anything I can do to encourage her to lay?

i have a banty hen i bought just before winter i got 1egg from her after few weeks when she got used to her new home then winter came no more eggs

Were these her chicks that she sat on the eggs herself? How old are they? It takes a while for them to start laying again after raising a family. So that is one possibility. Plus which hens often stop laying for a while when there is a big upheaval in their lives, such as moving to a new place. A week isn't long, I'd give her some time. If she still isn't laying in April or May then you can complain but I bet she will start long before *that*

BTW The chicks all ignore their really cool roosts and snuggle up with her in a tomato box! (Yea, all of them!)
