my dearest @Chicalina

no i haven’t got any other hens —there’s a grownup chick but not sure what it’s yet (male/female)

no old chickens —last week and still going on a deadly flood here and again i’m in frigging cambodia—the wild west. my dad’s friend lost 60 and now everything is just a chaos.

i don’t think there’s a time of the year here really —just 25 celsius all the way through.

i’ll try tonight and tomorrow the chick’s exchange at night. risky because of despite someone here saying —they do get to flesh with their beaks— but whatever, i’ll risk my hand.

i’ll let you know.

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear about the floods. Hope you and your family stay safe.

Nighttime with a torch when the chickens are all sleepy is perfect. Wear a glove if you need to. Have you tossed the bad eggs yet? If Macy cooches the chick under her, and makes little soft clucking sounds, then that is a great sign. If she rejects the chick, or doesn't know what to do with it, and watch her carefully for this, then hopefully it will make its way back to Daisy without incident since they are close by each other and you will be sat close by monitoring too.

Don't worry too much if that doesn't work so long as nobody gets hurt. This is all temporary. In a few weeks time the chicks will be weaned anyway, and they are already becoming part of your little flock. Daisy is naturally very protective of them. Macy will accept them as they grow and will learn to keep her distance from Daisy for a while.

Keep us posted as to how they are all doing. And photos are mandatory!!! 😁

Personally, what you can do is try a new clutch with the mama who didn't hatch any. Keep food and water close enough she can eat and drink without leaving (I find doing that has them eat more than ones that have to get up and leave). Continue to have her take breaks once or twice a day to poop and get some exercise, and she should be fine

jacinta, i just cannot hatch more eggs really.

i got four chickens as pest control, not for the eggs nor as meat.

the hens didn’t incubate until they did and SUDDENLY i have seven now.

i’m very sorry for macy really because she’s feeling frustrated and wants to become a mom BUT it’s that i don’t even have enough space for all the animals i have.

and then the problem with the cockerels.

i’d do that if one of them dies or if i find some people who wants them as pets BUT i really doubt that in this country.

but thanks for your post —i’ll do all the rest :)
