my hobbie is also how i make my living

I just did a BYC search on the word "glassblowing" and found a thread with this post from someone named "TheDoors5to1"

"love iggys, love dels, and jimmies, i live near quidnessett cemetary, sadly i have friends and family there also... the station nightclub memorial is also a place i visit..
i do not currently have a website as i do not have a working camera anymore, will soon i hope, i did have an etsy... but i hope to create a real website with my html skills sometime when i (someday) get a chance. I just got some new glass , i make borosilicate glass beads and pendants on a oxygen/propane torch. i hope to make larger art someday but at the moment am a poor artist without a kiln.... barnie
i first became interested in glassblowing after taking one on one lessons with eben horton, a
local artist who has a shop in wakefield called the glass station, its in an old gas station. i hope to someday have the setup he has and create the stuff i learned there, drinking glasses, vases, hanging ornamental orbs, paperwieghts and animal figurines.... fl someday...."

Not a hot glassworker, I only do cold leaded or etched. Years ago, I did make a decent living at it, but not anymore. Now I dabble in it as a hobby!

Glass blowing is probably one of the few hobbies where the initial investment for a "hotpot" is going to be $50,000.00 or so. Not for the faint of heart!
Now beadmaking, figurines? That's torchwork. Still not inexpensive, but much less than actual blowing.

Ok I have been corrected hahaha most people call it glassblowig but its actually known as flameworking. We do the beads figurines pipes. Etc. Not makin glass from raw sand. Thanks. For helpin me clarify.

My Uncle is a "glassblower" I grew up in what used to be known as the glass capital of the world. Everybody I knew grew up in a family with at least one person working in the 2 glasshouses in town. There is all kinds of glass out there. My mom worked in the glasshouse that made beer bottles and insulators for powerlines. My dad worked in the glasshouse that produced medicine bottles, soda bottles and decorative glass for Avon and such. I work in glass tubing. We converted tubes of glass into little bitty bottles that you see them use in the hospital or doctors offices that contain medcations for injections. Had to pack, those little bitty bottles, while checking the paint to make sure it was all correct with lot numbers and such in case of a recall. 8 boxes an hour X 256 bottles to a little box=2048. Froze my fanny in the winter and nearly sweat to death in the summer. Guarding juvenile delinquents was so much easier!!!

Ill post some pics when I get a chance. Actually been busy bustin my behind in the shop. Im thinkin bout tryin to make something special to post here on b.y.c!!!
