"Grand Opening all week!! Kids under 10 get free chick on Saturday!"

How could any ignore this??

I stop by this new store this morning to see what they have and hopefully find out what kind of chicks will be available.
I was in total disbelief!!

Owner was cleaning up dead chicks like crazy. Bin they were housed in was terrible: very little bedding, waterer was empty or too dirty to even look at, no food containers, and no lighting of any kind!!!
These chicks are about 1 week old. (They arrived last Wednesday morning).
I went home so upset and couldn't get those poor little babies out of my mind.
I go back to the store and take with me Cackle's "Guide to Raising Chicks".
I told the man what he needed to do immediately if he didn't want to lose the rest of them, and left my name and # so he could call me if he needed any help. I am withing 5 miles of this store and could be there ASAP!

Before I left, I bought 4 girls, Golden Buffs that came from
Meyer Hatchery. I already have a brooder set up with 2 chicks so I just added these. After getting some heat and fresh water, they are running around chirping and pecking at everything.

My hubby is going to kill me!!!

What the heck does the owner expect the kids to do once the chicks have started growing up?
OH MY GODDESS!! Human behaviour astounds me sometimes!

Bravo to you for saving those babies! (And not just the 4 that you bought!) And maybe the hubby won't notice the extra 4?

UPDATE!!!

I talked to a friend who wants 4 of the chicks, and since I only bought 4 I had to go back.

Conditions were very much improved to my relief.
All babies seem 100% better.

I bought 3 more to keep for myself!!!

GRRRR!!! I hate it when people think that chicks are disposable and just any ol lil kid can take care of them! What happends after the kid gets bored with it?, it grows up and isn't so cute anymore?, if the kid or the kid's parents don't know how to care of the chick???

I bet the store owner wouldn't give away puppies??? Why chicks???

Bet they all crow, and if he could get puppies for 50 cents and it would get people into his store I bet he would be handing them out too.
