My husband is being a jerk about my chickens...

Instead of gauze and tape, try vet wrap to hold the splint in place. It is self-sticking, holds very well, but doesn't stick to the animal. I buy it at the local Agway, but I would guess that any livestock supply store would carry it. I hope everything works out with your hubby...

I'm a man, and not an easy to deal with one either. If I pulled thrat cr*p with
my wife she would kick my a*s. Tell your husband I said he is an insensative jerk.
If he has a problem with it I'd be more than happy to discuss it personally.
You can't be a MAN without taking care of and respecting your WOMAN. Anyone
else is just a spoiled child. A man without a woman is nothing.

You BYCers make my day! Too funny!! I guess he was feeling a little guilty, cause he came and told me he cleaned the litter box!
It is supposed to get cold again this weekend, so the girls will definitely be back in the garage.

dlhunicorn, my chickens eat layer mash/crumbles. I meant to get crumbles, but got mash by mistake, so mixed the two. Treats consist of oatmeal, brown rice, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, yogurt, and sometimes a little cottage cheese mixed in the rice. They don't get treats every day but a little something most days. I also hve dug a few worms for them since the ground has thawed.

sunnychooks, I'll have to try that.

I was right about the girls getting anxious- they did ok until it was time to roost. I could tell they REALLY wanted to be with their buddies. I do have their crate on top of an old cabinet that I use to store supplies, so they are approx 3-4 feet off the ground. I had to secure the cage by using a chain and hasp and have it bolted to one of the rafters. I put chicken wire around the top of the cage so none of the other chickens can jump up onto the cage.
I will move them to the garage tomorrow after I get home from work.

Wow, Chickenshadow, a man without a woman is nothing. GOSH, I love that. Your wife is very lucky to have you. As for your husband ask him nicely to build you a "chicken hospital" and make him a deal

He won't be able to pass that up, if he can, then take his whole garage over with all kinds of adopted birds and rescued birds.

Oh yeah, put the crate that they are in now on his side of the bed and tell him to go to the couch.

My DH used to love the chickens when we first got them. Until they became a "obsession".
He builds the coops, and thats about it. I used to have roosters in the labor house, a building he was going to have a train set in. I cleaned it out for him. He has yet to do anything with it so I have my cages set up in there. Works great for a quarantine area (which is what its for at the moment) or a conditioning room for show. He said I could use it till he was ready to do something with it.
He was also disgusted about having chicks in the house. All the dust I agreed is bad. So, we comprimised. He built me a new laundry room, where I could have a cage set up for babies in there and my incubators could go, instead of the kitchen. The laundry room would have a nice door to seperate from the house.
I had the quarantened birds in thehouse for a few days but moved them outside yesterday when the sick rooster started crowing again LOL.
My hubby and I rarely fight, and as far as my obsession goes, I tell him that I could have a whole lot of worse and more expensive hobbies to be sure.

If your birds are roosting up high they could be hurting their legs when they jump down the heavier the bird the harder on their legs. so she might have reinjured her leg when she started to roost again.

I would cut out the spinach, broccoli and cabbage and offer the yogurt free choice daily (and aviacharge if you have it)
Cook the oatmeal in water and and mix just enough thru feed till it sticks to gether a bit (really saves on waste)

I will cut out the veggies, but can I ask why? Is there something in them that will harm them?

Hidden magnolia, I think you could be right. I have approx 8 inches of shavings on the floor which is concrete underneath, but I also have 2 galvanized feed cans in th coop area, and think she may have jumped onto those to receive her original injury.

dlhunicorn, I have been reading some of your threads on bumblefoot and other ailments affecting legs/feet. Is it possible that if she has a bruise, but no open area, she could be developing an infection? There is no open area to culture, so how could I tell? No swelling. Her one toe is curled in, that's why I thought it may be broken. I did add aspirin to her water again, even though the only sign of pain I can see, is that she still is favoring herl eg/foot. She did stand more today, and took a couple of steps to greet me when I walked up to her cage. (which BTW, is now back in the garage where I can control the temperature.)
