There are alot of people that have made there own "healthier" feed for their animals only to cause permanent damage to their animals.
I agree, There are a lot of people on this site that may have read on the internet about mixing there own grain (feed) for poultry and decided that they will do that because it will "healthier" than what they can buy.
The one main thing that they don't know is that there are different nutritional requirements between
Hard and
Soft feathered poultry.
Soft feather fowl cant proses whole hard grains as well as a Hard feathered breed, the soft feathered breed will tend to have poor, hard, frayed and tattered feathers if fed a diet largely of Whole Grains, Seeds and legumes. There diets should consist of mainly processed feed (Mash, Crumble, Pellet).
Hard feathered fowl are just the opposite they benefit better from a diet mainly of Whole Grains, Seeds and legumes.
I will say there there Protein requirements are also quite different.
Soft feather breeds includes birds like the Sussex, Orpington, Plymouth Rock,Wyandotte etc.
Hard Feather breeds includes birds like the Old English Game, Rumpless Game, Modern Game, Asian breeds like the Shamo, Asil, Malay etc.
