If I may offer my experience?
They will tip it over! I have a poop board in my coop. My coop is 8' long x 6' wide. The poop board is a piece of 1/2" thick composite outdoor panel, that is approximately 6' long x 3" wide. I have this covered in 8 mil plastic sheeting, to make for easy removal. (I spread DE on the poop board. Poop then dries up and is very easy to brush into a poop pail for the compost pit) Anyway, the 6 x 3 poop board panel sits on a frame, about 2 feet off the floor with about a 6" overhang.
I would not have believed this if I had not seen it.
I went down to collect eggs and startled the girls upon opening the coop door.
They jumped, fluttered, sqawked and 1 of my RIR hit the edge of the poop board and flipped this whole panel over from back to front. Unfortunately, it landed on and caught her leg and broke it right there. It was horrible~
I nailed 4 nails along the back lip of the poop board to prevent any flipping. I also made a ramp/ladder for them to walk up, instead of having to jump onto the poop board to get to the roost.
Not a sermon....just a thought!
