I keep mine on 16% all year long. They don't get fat or suffer egg laying issues. Grower finisher for all my Birds.I'll have to see if she feels overweight. She might be. She's pretty large, but close in size to the other girls of the same breed. I can certainly switch feeds if needed. In summer they get out and are more active and get to forage (and swim) more, but in winter I can see them packing on a bit of extra weight easily. Perhaps I should do different feed in winter vs. summer. I hadn't really thought much about that before.
Misconception that they required more in the winter. Actually..My Runner are pretty active year round but my Muscovy rarely move much at all in winter lol. But in cold weather they need the extra calories especially in cold climates. I agree drakes can be very sensitive along with being very male. It’s nice to see the the sweet side of them.
Mine eat less in winter and hunker down. Eat the same feed in spring and summer and a bit more because they require the calories they burn off daily being active. My gut tells me that in winter they use extra calories to stay warm and in summer they use extra calories to lay eggs, so maybe it's a wash and they can eat the same year round.![]()
