Hi Please can anybody help...

I posted yesterday about my mallard who was attacked... but I only had one answer and I just wanted some opinions as im really concerned.

I gave her a warm water bath yesterday and have also treated her skin and wound with hypocare.

I have taken pictures of the wound under her belly and if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it as I don't want her to be suffering but she has survived since Saturday and is eating and drinking....

Please feel free to ask any questions

I hope to hear something soon

I have a pekin who was the lone survivor of a predator attack she had had her wing torn off so first let me tell you I know how you must feel.
First as long she is eating and drinking your off to a great start. An injured animal that refuses food or water is a bad sign, but you don't have to worry about that. The bleeding seems very controlled which is also good. I suggest putting neosporin/ antibacterial ointment on the wound and covering it with a clean Kendall tefla antimicrobial non-stick pad which can be purchased in any Walgreen's, rite-aid, or even walmart. Keep that secure with stretchy bandage tape. She may not like it, but since she's injured she probably won't care. My pekin despised me before her accident, but after wards clung to me as her lifeline. Change the bandage daily and about after a week you can remove it as long as you keep an eye on her so that the wound can start to dry up and scab. She'll know you're trying to help. Also ducks can take AMOXICILLIN 250mg capsules once a day to stave off any possibility of infection. That is what my vet gave me when I took my duck in. It's kind of tricky to get used to giving your duck pills, but if you stick the capsule in a pea she'll eat it right up. With your love and care, she will make it. The wound looks very similar to what I had to deal with so as long as you keep it clean and dry she'll heal right up and the feathers will even grow back. The occasional bath is also OK as long as you dry her off afterward and re bandage the wound. I really hope this helps and the best of luck to you!
