Ok here I go
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to chickens. I first acquired four baby chicks yesterday from my kids’ elementary school. I’ve done research prior and have always wanted chickens but with the pandemic I was not sure if they were going to continue with the project.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have no idea
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I’ve always loved chickens and the idea of having eggs in my backyard and knowing my chickens are treated with respect and kindness, instead of factory farmed.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to knit and sew thought I’m not great at it, and I’m self taught.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I was working as a hairstylist before the pandemic shut my salon down, I’m married and have three children. I have two rescue pitties, Dahlia (5) and Mac (8), three rescue cats that I fostered from birth, Batman (6) Jack (3) and his littermate Luna (3), a fish tank of rescue fish.. (sensing a trend?) A rescued Boa constrictor who is now 2.5 years old named Abbadon, a 1.5 year old green tree python named Leviathan, and a 2 year old crested gecko named Hoggle. Oh and now we have the four chicks, hopefully they turn out to be girls because in my city it’s illegal to keep roosters.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
My aunt suggested it after I messaged her at 4:45 this morning asking for help with one of my chicks. I was told she had splay legs but none of the braces I’ve made have helped even slightly. She still scoots on her tummy and now I’m thinking she might be deformed. I will attach pictures. Her wings aren’t the same size and she cannot contract the big one and cannot extend the small one. She won’t eat or drink, she doesn’t poop, and she chirps incredibly loud non stop, unless I hold her to my chest.
