Hi I wanted to join after reading how helpful this group is!
We've had chickens for 1.5yrs now.
Right now we have 3 but we just lost one girl on Christmas Night. My heart is still hurting.
We have 1 Black Copper Maran, 1 Welsummer and 1 Americanah. Our girl who passed was a Plymouth Blue Rock.
My favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens is the peace and laughter they bring us. It's always exciting to see what their feather colors end up being like and when they lay that first egg! They are like my little feathery dogs that come running.
Other hobbies: I like to knit and read.
I'm a Stay at home chicken and cat mom. My husband is retired so we just enjoying life together. I have 2 tuxedo cats which are my shadows. We just lost back before Thanksgiving our old man cat so we've had lots of sadness this year.
We've also had a hard time with sour crop and lost 2 young hens a few months back plus another hen back in the summer. We aren't sure what happened to her. We haven't figured out what's causing it all so we are making adjustments to where we feed them to see if that's the culprit. It's been sad. I am happy to gave found a farm vet about 50mi away so hopefully he will help us if we have more issues.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this site by Googling but I can't remember which search words. I think maybe "crop". I've known abt this site since the Spring. I decided to join now because of the recent loss of our hen and I'm tried of my heart hurting so I'm hopeful y'all can help me with my questions now abt the current girls.

! I’m so sorry about the loss of your hen, especially on Christmas! Also for your other hens and the cat! 
just shattering. It takes time to let go, I've been there, it doesn't always get easier either. ❤
