Hello! My name is Kaelyn. I'm a pet quail owner (and lover!) located in the greater Houston area.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I currently only own quail. I started out with 2 button quail when I was 11 years old named Comet and Dasher. I ended up owning coturnix quail when I was 13!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I own 3 coturnix quail named Mars, Miah, and Conra, though I plan on getting one more female soon for more stability. (I own 1 male and 2 females as of now.)
(3) What breeds do you have?
I currently own only Coturnix quail!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I enjoy owning quail due to the fact they are semi-independent animals, calm, friendly to humans, fun to watch, and the personalities each individual bird has!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy digital art/drawing, playing the ukelele, fishing, martial arts, travel, attending concerts, and enjoying music. (My favorite genre is alternative/emo rock music!)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I currently live with my parents and little sister, who also is also an animal lover! On top of owning my quail, I have 3 leopard geckos named Lemon, Smiley, and Snowy. I currently don't work, but I aspire to be an EMT paramedic or nurse in the future. Until then I accept custom art commissions and hope to enter lifeguard training.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I joined/found BYC in 2015 but totally forgot my old account from that time.. lol. I decided to get back into the community in hopes of more communication with fellow animal lovers and advice for my quail. Thank you for reading all this! I can't wait to get back in the loop of things and meet new people.
