Hello, I’m Roostmomma12 I have had chickens for about two years now. I adore them. Funny, unique and endlessly entertaining, I cannot praise them enough. The only thing funnier was when my Duck, DUCK became an only child and when I put her into the hen house, well she became a Chuck lol we called her Chuckles. Unfortunately she wandered off and disappeared. This has been an ongoing fight for me. I have only ever twice seen evidence of a predator. Once from a hawk and last late summer I was in and out of the garden all afternoon and suddenly without a sound I look and see my pretty chicken laying motionless. I ran to her still right by garden and her head was snapped clean of and gone. It was horrific. I’m in the process now of having someone come and build me a mobile fence to protect them throughout the summer. I live in Oregon on about 2 acres. My yard is very wide and has 4 old growth trees shading the majority of the grass area when the leaves are on two are old pines. My garden has a picket fence along my yards left side open at both ends the far side has a chain link fence that stops at an out building and then at the other end the fence turns right all the way around the property to the front garage with the gate. It’s not sealed up on the far side of the house it would be a lot to try and build fences in between the house and garage, garage and covered work area between back of rear garage and open covered work shop. It’s a lot of starting and stopping and I imagine not cheap. So I’m doing something different. Mobile coop with a mobile fence. The coop I have. I am at my neighbors and let her chickens out. One white fly hen has what looks like a small bulb from her rectum and everything is smeared wit looks like black tar. Like what comes out of newborn babies with the first couple poops of their new lives. What is she dealing with hear? I red something about worms another about digestive issues. What’s the little gland ? My word. Should she go to vet? Kinda urgent if anyone has advice I’m so worried. Thanks so much everyone. It’s wonderful to meet all of you.
