We were planning on rescuing hens of a culling age but after a two hours drive it turned out they had all found new homes. Since the guy knew my step father he just gave us six pullets!Hello and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined.
I think your rescue battery hens were likely much older than 3 months when you got them. The commercial egg companies don't generally offer their hens for adoption until their first molt. Unless you got them some other way.
Congratulations on rescuing them! It must be very rewarding.
That was in January 2020 and a few months ago my stepdad actually rescued some hens of the same generation. It was awful to see in what state they were after a year in there compared to our hens.
