I've been breeding my quails for a few months now and I've always had great results, my incubator was always full of eggs and had so many little chicks. However lately, they're not laying so much anymore and most of the eggs they do lay are duds. We're getting another breeding set some time next week so we can get more sets of eggs. Is there anything we could do or give them to help them breed? Or have the hens gave up breeding now? One of my hens was being harassed so much by the cock that we had to take her out of that pen because she was bleeding pretty bad and she was the one that was laying most of the eggs. The others seem to have stopped breeding altogether now. Have they grown tired of breeding? If they have, I'll take the cock out and leave the females to rest but I know the cock is a randy buggar!!

If the hens are to stressed they will lay fewer eggs.

What is your roo to hen ratio? From what I can tell it shouldn't be less than 1 to 4.

It was 1 to 3 but now it's 1 to 2 but will be getting a new breeding set that will be 1 to 4 so hopefully that will be more successful. Thanks for the advice

I would add some more hens to your original breeding group as well, 1 to 4 is a good minimum ratio. This is likely the source of your problem. If even after your ratio is improved the roo singles out and picks on hens he may just be of bad temperament.

Cheers,
Jessie

Thank you, originally, we bought 1 to 3 but I'm going to get a new breeding set with 1 to 4 ratio and will hopefully be more successful in breeding. Thank you all for the advice, I really appreciate it
