So this lovely Black Jersey Giant girl I have, Sunny, thought she found an awesome worm. I was pulling my hair back into a ponytail in the run and the hair band popped. it's one of those seamless clear rubber kind for thick hair.
I set it down on top of the breeder pen that I was given and use for the babies to come out in or the bunnies to be with the chickens. I walked around to finish putting straw in their coop and I saw Sunny telling her 2 sisters to take a hike with the band in her beak. I told her "Sunny that is not a worm, put it down" but she didn't listen! Isn't that shocking!!!
So I ran around the coop to the door to the run. Went over to her to take it and it was already swallowed! lol Now I read in a few places that she will probably pass it or it will be broken up and passed. I felt her crop and she felt fine there and doesn't seem to be having any issues. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing I should do to help her pass it through at all. I give them plain yogurt once or even twice a week sometimes (if I need it to be eaten they get it that 2nd time) and they have access to their feed and water anytime they need it in the coop and the door to the coop is open all day while they are out.
Crazy chickens... sheesh
