My Jumbo Browns are now in a "flight pen" *pictures galore*

So are the quail hunkering down in the grass at night or are they going in one of the dog houses? Or are you just collecting them? Do raccoons bother that kind of set up? I would think they would rip though it easily.

lol no, i'm only 5'4" it rubs on my hair abit is all. I plan to make higher poles to hold it up though so it leaves my hair alone! LOL!

The pens don't look 5' 4". Maybe I'm just comparing the height to the dog houses.

that looks great!!!...bet their lovin life out there!!

Last night I collected them up and put them back in their pens I may keep doing that but I haven't decided yet. Only ever had a raccoon get in the fence once it went after a cockerel chicken I had tied out (by his leg) he climbed right up over the fence to get him (no netting then), but anytime I have chickens in the fence as long as they are lose and able to hind in the dog boxes i have no problem with raccoons. Now my BC marans I'm not taking any chances with they are put away at night and may be for many many more months still.

I've had chickens on and off in this fence (with no netting) for MANY months with no issues other than that cockerel (and that raccoon was omitted lol).

THEY AREN'T 5'4"??? Also my dog boxes are the largest you can get both cost over $100 (even though the igloo is a POC. LOL.

As I said, I am planning on getting taller posts or moreof the fiberglass rods that are taller than me but right now we only had two we could use.

I dunno what the big deal is about height, the netting over the fence is to keep hawks from getting easy access to my birds. I called it a "flight pen" but my coturnix wings are clipped so theresno flight that will begoing on there lol I don't really mind my hair getting messed in the netting what does concern me is my hair tie or something ripping the netting, but for now I just hold my hands up if i need to go in there for something. The fencing is about 4ft tall i'd say (it's goat fence). ANd then the fence in the front is electric-able fence netting, which is all covered in the bird netting top to sides...however I still have somework to do.

I will eventually getting pheasant netting, but this temporary fix is fine with me. You wouldnt believe how many hawks a day scope out my birds...had a redtailed the one day almost crash into me swooping after my pullets on my lap! Perigrines, Red taileds, and im unsure of this one but they almost look like broad winged hawks.

i'm really new to coturnix and i just LOVE them. don't you think they look like mini versions of Alaska's state bird, the Ptarmigan (pronounced tar-ma-gin)

the A&M's look like ptarmigan in the winter

and the natural wild type ones (my favorite) look like them in the summer!

(Edited To Add: someone needs to domesticate Ptarmigan. they taste good, have VERY furry feet, and the change color in the winter!)
