I purchased Lavender Orpington chicks last year and they are beautiful color (3 hens and 1 rooster). This year I decided to hatch some eggs, expecting the beautiful grey chicks I got last year. I ended up with yellow chicks with with black/grey speckles on some. I also ended up with 2 black (these are my red sex link hens with my lavender orpington rooster chicks). After looking up online, looks like I would need to breed my lavender hens with a black orpington to keep the grey coloring.

My question is, what color will these be as they grow? I hatched chicks to sell. I will not be selling as lavender after researching online. What would I advertise them as? The two black as barn yard mix and the lavender chicks as ?????

They are all healthy and ready for a new home. :)

I would call the Orpingtons Orpington color mix. I would keep a few they look like they could be very perdy

Interesting color on your chicks. If you bred a lavender rooster to lavender hens, you should get lavender chicks.

Besides the Black Sex Links, what other kinds of hens do you own? What your yellow chicks with spots look like to me is dominant white. If you had a dominant white hen with your lavender rooster, that is what I would expect their chicks to look like.

Another possibility is if your lavender Orpingtons have the blue gene mixed into them. Then you could conceivably get lavender combined with splash. I’m not sure what that would look like, but I’ve had splash chicks that looked like yours.

Can you post photos of your adult birds? That might give us some clues.

Thank you! I have 18 more in the incubator
