My leukemia's back.

I always figured the only sled dogs are Malamutes and Siberian huskies, but, see they make use of almost any breed, Rotts, Standard Poodles, etc. just no Doxies. Exciting.

Definitely bred for service not style; I'm sometimes amazed at how varied the dogs in a sledding team can be.

Several years ago we took a trip to Alaska. For me the highlight of the trip was a visit to the kennel of multi time Iditarod winner, Jeff King. He told us that his criteria for breeding was "The overwhelming desire to run and the ability to consume massive amounts of calories." His dogs were very evidently mutts with a strong husky influence. Anyone who grouses about 'making' these dogs run has never seen sled dogs.

Looking up Jeff King. Love dogs with a passion, and dogs that have a passion.

Amazing! Unfortunately not all dog sled owners treat, or keep their dogs like this. I just recently saw a short video on a place that raised sled dogs, sadly, there are a few out there... where the conditions were deplorable! This man, King is refreshing. He's really enjoying, caring, and loving these dogs. Love it. Tried to download his site, not sure how from my phone. If you want to see something amazing that sour was talking about..google Jeff King. Great video in there also.
