My leukemia's back.

That's part of the reason for the bright colors on the pusher, and helpful things like that. It helps draw attention to themselves, so the get used more often. Cynthia, maybe one of the sons could "borrow" his saw? That way, when he asks, you can remind him he loaned it out. Anytime he calls for it, the son could tell him he's still using it.

Even my father had a pusher he made. No bright color but, at least he used it. My father was a person that tried often to kill himself or us, during daily chores. He found a can full of rusty pennies in the woods while stalking empty and not so empty(like full of ants) discarded beer cans.

He put them in the laundry tub with straight bleach. When he came back to check the pennies he wasn't happy, SO he poured in a jug of his favorite, etching product. Next think I hear him coughing his lungs out and a vile cloud around him. I told him to get out of the house NOW. He didn't/wouldn't so I got my son out, opened all the windows in the house , then stood on the driveway with him till it seemed safe. Name just came to me
Muriatic Acid.

Later I told him to go to the ER to see how much damage he caused to his lungs. Wouldn't go.

Went to google to find out what bleach + muriatic acid create. Surprised he lived after that.

I'm sorry that happened Cynthia. Three thoughts to save him and his body parts.
  1. The pusher that was mentioned.
  2. Feather boards. They have a lot of "fingers" that will let the wood go in only 1 direction, ie toward the blade and beyond from the operator, not back toward the operator. Clamp one vertically to the fence to hold the wood down, one horizontally to the table to keep the wood against the fence if the piece is somewhat narrow and not easy to keep against the fence without your hand being too close.
  3. Someone out there ANY TIME he is going to be using power tools. There is way too much to remember and think about even for those that do not have memory issues. And it is easy to get "lazy" with some of the safety things.
You can buy the first two at pretty much any hardware or big box store. The third is something you will have to provide ;)

Oh dear!!.................
At about 5:35 p.m. on Aug. 13, a Very Large Air Tanker, one of Cal Fire’s converted DC-10s or Boeing 747s, dropped a retardant load along Division C of the Mendocino Complex Fire in Mendocino County. Battalion Chief Matthew Burchett was killed by tree debris and three other firefighters received minor injuries, according to the report.

The incident was serious enough that Cal Fire issued recommendations for “immediate corrective actions.”...............Let's hope they do make immediate corrections!
Dam that sucks.....
