Yep, I hear ya.

I thought it was the coolest, being a kid in the hill country of Texas (so far inland) and finding ocean fossils in the rocks.

Coolest thing. Used to be water over half of Texas!

I guess I am in the wet half. Every now and then while digging post holes, I bring up what looks like a clam shell with ridges on it. Not smooth like you find now days.

Where I am, we had the glaciers come through as scrape everything to the south part of the state. We ended up with pot-hole lakes scattered all over. Minnesota may have the state slogan of Land of 1000 Lakes, but Wisconsin has alot more than they do.
for example, Wi has 10 lakes named "Devils Lake" and 11 that are named "Anderson Lake". And we have 80 lakes named "Bass Lake" and that does not count the lakes that have Bass in the name like Little Bass Lake, Green Bass Lake, Bass Bay Lake. to make it confusing, we only have 72 counties...

We have a lot of those up high in the mountains here, too. There are entire areas up on the top of the Big Horns that are Dolomites - the fossilized remains of coral reefs - and they are full of teeny little sea creature shells.

Isn't that because the coast used to be on the west edge of Wyoming? And then California came over and smushed up the mountains?

Well nothing special out here but, I do have hand picked(up) shells from Sanibel Island.The only real vacation (as in more than 1.5 days) I ever had- May 1984

Told a cousin I didn't want her mom to call or write me anymore, or she might get slapped with a restraining order and or jail. 15 calls in 18 days leaving nasty messages. and 4 letters/cards telling me how evil I am. she came up to see her sister for the first time after my mom got married after she died, and she has 2 daughters within 20 minutes of us but it was too far away to see mom with three little kids her youngest will be 49 years old this year....
