About 10 years ago, my husband -who rarely if ever gets sick and when he does it is a two day thing- got a cough, And for some reason it affected the nerve that stimulates coughing. He would cough so badly he would start to choke, turn blue stop breathing... scary.Rachel, I'm confused... can the builder build on your current property? Or do you need to find a new house lot? What about waiting until spring/summer and then camping out for the summer while they build? So sorry about hubby's lost ring. I'll lift your family up to the throne room, for a solution to the "place to live while new build being completed" as well as your ongoing resp. issues. May God touch both of these situations in such a way that His controling hand in all things great and small is so very evident. Are there any snow birds that you know who would like to have their homes "house sat" for the winter?
Thanks all for your prayers. GS is eating, his cough is not severe enough to keep him home an other day (Kid is a quick healer). Hubby is still under the weather, and feels like he's been run over by a truck. But he has some periods where the cough is under control, so he's able to rest those muscles!
I hope he finds it.Honey lost his wedding ring yesterday. He's lost so much weight we should have seen this coming, but he never said anything about it being loose. He doesn't know where, he was in and out of homes and assisted living facilities. He's making calls to see if anyone found it. Keeps going on about how naked he feels without it. I have credit at a local jewelry store but it's about 5 years old. I hope they don't give me a hard time about using it for a new ring.![]()
You would be describing Tussionex. Yes, we call it liquid gold here. And yes, the docs don't like to prescribe it. But, we push the envelope when we need it. Hubby's weak spot is his lungs, also mine. So... we demand it when faced with resp illness. Yes, it may be possible to abuse that stuff, but I can't for the life of me imagine the likelihood of that! Good to have when nothing else works.About 10 years ago, my husband -who rarely if ever gets sick and when he does it is a two day thing- got a cough, And for some reason it affected the nerve that stimulates coughing. They gave him a serious cough med. codeine and something. It worked. He had to rest the nerve long enough for it to re calibrate or whatever they do.
Have you talked to you doctor about some heavier cough suppressants?
I know they do not want to give those things out, but they still make them and they prescribe them to somebody.
codine is what they give me....it works real well at relaxing that nerve set....About 10 years ago, my husband -who rarely if ever gets sick and when he does it is a two day thing- got a cough, And for some reason it affected the nerve that stimulates coughing. Rachel, you come up regularly on my ride to work in the morning. I'll keep praying for you... both health issues, and housing. I'd love for you and your family to have a nice big house with plenty of room for you to spread out and have your animals! Sounds like your Pulm. doc is a keeper. He's on his toes. I like that man.Codeine is great for suppressing coughs. When I worked for the lung doctor ages ago, we had a triad of meds he's Rx for his COPD, etc patients who got a respiratory illness. I could call them in to the local pharmacies by heart....doxycycline, prednisone, and robitussin AC (codeine containing). That trio would clear most folks up nicely.
The problem with building another structure here while the mobile stays is the size of the property. We're only 80 feet wide, and the new house would have to be adjacent to the mobile. There's just not enough room for a new house, the required set backs, and space between the mobile and the new structure for the workers to move. We've been dealing with trying to get rid of this poor old mobile for 10 years. I'm hopeful with Honey's new job, we can afford to purchase a second home, before we sell this one. The plan would then be to demo the mobile here and sell the property that way. Or, if I get to go back to work in the near future, we could probably afford to build a home on this property and then sell it.
The whole back to work thing is up on the air now, though. Saw the pulmonologist yesterday. My breathing is better on the bump of prednisone, and my oxygen levels don't drop when I walk. When I was talking about being more fatigued, though, he started thinking cardiac. He has a screening type ultrasound and did a quick echo of my heart in the office and didn't get good numbers. He wants to do a "real" echocardiogram and compare to my baseline from pre-transplant. Frankly, I'm not doing so well with this. I'm thinking one system tanking is enough, thank you very much. My lungs are already effected, I don't need cardiac problems as well. I'm trying very hard not to dwell on this until we get some real numbers, thankfully denial is a preferred coping mechanism for me.
So now of course I'm re-thinking all my plans for spring, with chickens and dogs and whatever else. No big decisions being made yet, of course.
We did find a house we really like. It's a foreclosure, so the price is great. From the pics it needs a fair amount of cosmetic work (carpets, paint, etc) but it's a huge home on 10 acres. I'm the kind of girl who would trade granite countertops and a master suite for a nice barn and a pasture any day! Problem is, with our recent financial issues, we literally have no savings, so no down payment. I was telling Honey this am we'll just have to trust the right house will be available to us when we're ready and able to purchase it. I do like this place, though....
