Home safely. Got here a little after midnight. Man it was nasty up there. 68 miles of snow covered ice, up and downs, and curves. The highest point on the pass is Granite Pass at just over 9,000 feet. We couldn't see the sign! Yeah, like that. Took us more than 3 hours over and another 3 hours back. But no incidents, aside from the usual suicidal deer and 11 elk that decided to wander across the road in the dark - one at a time. Had to stop on a slight incline and Ken was a little concerned about starting back up from a stopped position, but no issues there either. I hate that drive in the winter......those passes eat tourists all summer long, and in winter they run out of tourists so they start on the locals.
Today I have to get Kendra's 10am cath done and then she's going to Aunt Tammy's until Mommy picks her up. We have to go to Riverton for more meetings <sigh> but we're staying the weekend down there. Fine with me - I get to eat lobster at the Wind River Casino. No gambling - Dad always taught us never to bet on another man's game - but the food there is simply fabulous! The lobster is huge and served beautifully with a little metal dish of melted butter over a flame to keep it hot! And the shrimp cocktail is unbelievable. No hanging them off the side of a glass of cocktail sauce here, let me tell ya! Large shrimp, perfectly prepared, on a bed of greens arranged around a crystal dish of sauce and lemon fans. Oh, YEAH! Riverton is the only place they hold their meetings that I really look forward to.
Kendra's little friend Sophia lives there, so I'll be spending some time while Ken's in meetings visiting there. She's the little girl we alternate birthday parties with....met her and her family in Denver and she was born a couple of weeks before Kendra. She was born with half a heart - Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She can sure run circles around us, that's for sure. She just had the 3rd surgery, the Fontan procedure, in the 3 stage series and should now be strong enough to be put on the transplant waiting list. Anxious to spend some time catching up with them.
Phil, you stay safe and keep that camera going!!
