Y'know, Phil, right there you did a thing that way too many people never learn to do. You can gain an awful lot of peace in your own heart when you develop that perspective - good job.
AMEN!!!

That's why I often share my story. Because sharing my hurt gives other people permission and a safe place to share theirs.

I've done it. I drove almost 2 hours at 5 AM this morning to stand for over an hour and a half in the freezing cold so I could be in line to adopt a puppy from a shelter at the southern end of my state. Then, I had to wait 3 hours till the shelter finally opened up so I could pick her out. She's a Jack Russell/mix. I think she has some hound in her. She just about made my ears bleed when we started driving home. There was some baying mixed in with the yipping. From all I'm seeing, she's going to be an awesome dog, and very easy to train. I hope she'll be a safe presence around my chickens to help deter hawks.

No picture? You know it never happened unless there's a picture

LG, congrats on the new dog! We definitely need pictures

I'm not much for smaller dogs, but I've been considering adding a terrier type once we move, depending on our predator situation at our new place. I'd briefly considered a LGD, but I think that's too much dog, and way too much hair. My mom's had a few rat terrier types and we've liked them, such personality in a little package! Anyway, it's something I'm keeping in mind....

I don't know about you all further east, but today was a bee-you-tiful day! I was outside in my T-shirt, working a little, then I'd sit in the sun and read or just watch the flock roam around, then work a little more.....it was wonderful.

My cockerel Keeper may indeed be a keeper. He was in the hay barn making weird noises in the can I keep the chicken feed in. I couldn't figure out what he was doing, it wasn't a treat/food call, but he was all kinds of interested in that can. A little while later I checked and there was a hen in there, laying an egg, with him sitting on the edge of the can encouraging her

. It was pretty cute. My boy Eric is great to the hens, but he's never shown an interest in nesting for them. Keeper's father was the only bird I had who did that, I didn't think about it being genetic? But he enticed another hen to lay in that same feed can. Not sure it's the greatest place, but at least the eggs are clean and I know where to find them!

Another new animal behavior, not so cute or funny....Eve has started taking food from the pantry at night. Bad dog

My pantry cabinet is open faced. We weren't sure which dog was doing it so I locked Roscoe in my room last night and she took a bag of Doritos and some Ritz crackers.....she was incredibly sorry to get caught and didn't touch anything else that night. We'll see how it goes tonight. My dogs have always been very respectful of food on the counters, etc. I leave a bowl of scraps for the chickens overnight quite often and they don't touch it. I can' leave a plate of food on the sofa and leave the room and the dogs won't touch it. I don't know why she decided to raid the pantry all of a sudden, but honestly I don't care why, she just needs to stop or she's going to find her little Princess self kenneled at night.

It was a pretty day here Rachel. I was able to be out in the yard without a jacket or sweatshirt, yay! It sounds like you enjoyed the outside too
