Why *not*, Phil? Smoked or grilled trout sounds spectacular!

At this point we have had the huge Norway rats, German roaches and now (American??) field mice as pests in our home! The worst were the huge rats. I hate the mice but they least the don't jump out at you with teeth barred. The roaches were gross and everywhere! Felt like I had the population of New York city in roaches in my house. These are doomed. So far I have set out 120+ sticky boards. Amazon saves the day at $20 for 72 per box times 3 boxes! My Aspie guy wonderfully thought of putting the boards chained together across the doorways! Then close the door so that if they are in, that is the only way out or vice versa. For walls, I drilled small holes and out in steel wool and rat bait.
OOPs! I forgot to get dinner ready! LOL! Here they come in.... HHAHAA!

Back from town...went all the way to town for a Subway.
40 miles. Guess shes tired of Micky D's also.

On the way home my daughter asked me if I'm going to the
Valentine Dinner at the the church tomorrow night. Not going
to say I haven't thought about it. I have. Don't remember the
last time my wife and I didn't go. But pretty sure I won't be there
tomorrow night.

My daughter, she wants to go. Church dinner, where the youth serve
the couples. Barb and I always got a kick out of our daughter serving
us.

So yes. I'll miss my wife this weekend. Valentines Day and all that.
I may buy her some flowers, go to the cemetery.

You know, today is the 11th....month ago today.

I've thought about drinking. Maybe it would help. But then I remembered,
I don't drink. To old to start now I guess.

I don't know...it hurt my feeling when she mentioned Valentines Day.

Spook

@Spookwriter my heart goes out to you. You have come to a good group, some of the most caring people I've ever met are here and we all prop each other up. Someone here (Blooie maybe?) called us suspenders, we hold each other up. It's just your turn and we're glad to be here for you.

Of course, that means you have to put up with some of our goofiness too, but something tells me you can handle that

I guess this, today, is as close as I've come to actually functioning
in a while. Managed to set here most of the day and follow the screen.

For the last little bit I've sat here and looked up my own name. Didn't
know we have those things called 'ovations". So I was looking back
at mine. Guess it's things I've written that certain people have liked.

Several pages of that stuff. Things I had long forgotten writing. So I
took the time to read them all again. Some funny, some serious.

Both here online, and in private messages, I realize that we are indeed
a family. Broad shoulders and all that. Not just for me as I deal with my
loss. But we stand for each other, as we each in our turn face issues in
life.

And yes, we are a family made up of friends.

Forever a part of each others life.

So here's an image for ya'all....

My local feed store is having a bucket sale. You buy a 5 gallon bucket for $3. Anything that fits in the bucket is 20% off. The sale is this weekend.

they don't get baby chicks until the end of the month. Myself, I'm thinking they should hold the bucket sale until they have baby chicks

. Can't ya'all see Rachel with a 5 gallon bucket of chicks? And one of ducklings, and one of turkey poults, and another of chicks....wonder if they'd make me put the lid on?

Sorry Spook, fresh out of brownies but I did make bread pudding this morning. Want me to airlift you some along with other emergency rations?

As far as laundry, you're doing good to get the clothes washed. Don't worry about ironing, it's not necessary. Only the people that make irons will tell you it's important. Wrinkles = character. I think that applies to faces and clothes both.
Ironing is so very highly over-rated. Shortly after we got married, I told my husband that if he ever bought any thing that required ironing, he'd be the one doing the ironing! We use a spray bottle. Little spritz here and there the night before, run your hands down it, leave it to hang dry, and good to go in the morning. I had an aunt who ironed her sheets, and her husband's tighty whiteys. And her pillow cases, and her curtains. She was always washing curtains. I could never figure out how she got them dirty in the first place!

Tell me more Sour ? Where do I get these people to come and clean
my house? All the way from your house? Long drive...

A neighbor lady has done and offered to come over and take care of
me. But that isn't what I want, or need.
Beware ladies bearing brownies or casseroles. Unless they come as a gaggle of ladies, best to lock your door, and pull your shades! How old is your daughter?

There was a spray bottle beside that iron. What was it for?

And beware of ladies being food now.....this whole "meat tray" thing needs
adjusted. I must of had a two dozen meat trays that week. Its AFTER the
funeral we need food. That week you know I didn't feel like eating. It's when
everybody went home that I needed food. So remember that...when someone
dies and you send a meat tray...sent it two weeks later. They'll need it then.

I agree. Folks come out of the wood work, for that first week. Then, they get busy, leaving you to pick up the pieces, and try to put your life back together. I've never been in your shoes. Came very close, so I can't say that I understand... but have seen it time and time again. Am I guilty of doing the same? More often than not. If I lived near enough, I'd be sending you and DD a casserole, but no strings attached!!! How bout some virtual brownies. Super easy, super comfort food. I start with a brownie mix, put it in the pan, then swirl some peanut butter through it, add some nuts (if you like nuts, or you can just put them on 1 side to please both sets of folks.) Can even swirl in some caramel icecream topping. Bake as usual.
