Free chicks? Don't you need more feed?

Funny thing....two years ago when they did this sale, they ran out of chicks. Today, they were out of feed

. I got the last bag of starter they had in the warehouse, that's why the one bag of scratch. They offered organic starter----uhh, only if it's the same price as conventional. I did want another bag of the medicated starter, with getting ordered chicks and hatching I like having the medicated feed as we're pretty warm and wet here. Perfect grounds for cocci, and I've had issues with it before so the babies usually get it to start off.

so maybe more feed and more chicks next week. If nothing else, those red sex links lay like champs and sell great as point of lay pullets.

Sorry I haven't commented in a few days. Just been crazy here. Rachel, when do you know results of your bone marrow draw? I read thru & didn't see if you have already mentioned it.

Good chicken news for me.......last spring I bought a few cuckoo marans hoping for a rooster to breed with my Easter Eggers & Olive Eggers.

Turns out this one that was questionable, it's a rooster! Not often I'm happy about another rooster.

Not often I'm happy about another rooster.

Of course it is a rooster--Too light colored to be a pullet.

Find out bone marrow results on Monday or Tuesday.

I may look for a few more cuckoo Marans pullets this year if I don't get any in my surprise pack. My hatchery ones have been nice dependable layers, even if the eggs aren't the super dark.

Yeah me too. Probably won't hear anything until tomorrow afternoon.

I got the incubator moved out yesterday and it's getting up to temp. Its a large unit so it's taking a while to warm up. Probably set eggs tomorrow or Wednesday. Baby chicks are doing well

. Overcast but not rainy, so that's something. Thinking to head over to my folks' this weekend, Honey and the boys all have Friday off so we could head over Friday am and come back Saturday evening or Sunday depending on who we can get to watch the animals.
