My leukemia's back.

The thermostat is The Incredible Incubator Thermostat from Fall Harvest. I'm too late today to call, but I can't even find the thermostat on line on their site anymore. Makes me wonder.

Not sure that mean rooster is even worth it. I tried candling eggs last night and there's a lot of clears. The spike in temp would have killed off embryos, but they should have been at 10ish days incubation, so there should have been something.

I brought home a cockerel I'd sold as a straight run chick today. He's flat beautiful! I'll try to get a pic up sometime. I don't know if he's prettier than the one I held back, or if he's just older. I'll have to get the two side by side and see how they compare. anyway, I'm excited to have him, that mean guy is going. Little guy is probably too young to breed, but if mean guy isn't even doing the deed, what's the point? I'll put Tom, the blue egger rooster, back in with the Marans hens and set Olive eggers, I can sell those all day long.

Good news on Big Boy

. This doctor asked something no one else had asked....have you been exposed to any other fumes? Sounds like a no-brainer, but I'd never thought to ask, and he's never thought to bring it up. He's been using this..

to clean the grill at work (McDonald's). Symptoms started at work. Everyone asked about smoking, no one asked about other fumes, etc.

Good news is, it's short term exposure with basically mild symptoms. He thinks just not being exposed again, and the steroid inhaler to calm the lungs for a while, and in 6ish weeks he'll be good as new.

Thank you Lord.

Hey Phil, do you have call ducks? do you have pics?
Just a question, does he wear a mask when using this to clean the grill? It says right on the label not to breath the fumes. It sounds like McDonalds either did not train properly or did not use the correct gear.

Either way, this is workmans comp and you should not pay anything for the medical care.

Nope, no mask. Right?

Thankfully, my boys are still on Medicaid from me being sick. so we've not paid anything anyway. But I will be letting his insurance know, they may want to go after Micky D's, who knows? We've also had a talk about protecting yourself, your health is not worth a job.

Rachel, glad they were able to get to the bottom of what was causing your son's health problem. Definitely sounds like a workman's comp issue. Even if it doesn't affect how BB's health care is taken care of, McD's needs to make changes to protect all their employees.

Hope you all have a good day!

Phil, tell your wife to join us.  We'll just call her Mrs. Phil.  How did you make out on your last duck hatch??

My motto is:  hatch for me, sell the excess from the hatch, and sell off the older hens.  So far it's working pretty good.  Though everybody wants to buy the one year olds, and not so much the 2 year olds.

What are you using for a bator?  for a thermostat?  I think my home made styro with bi metal thermostat is more reliable than the coolerbator with the digital.  But, I spent hours working on the styro, tweaking the thermostat setting, and putting in all kinds of heat/air baffles to hopefully eliminate hot spots and direct more heat to the cool spots.  Need to do the same with the coolerbator.

I really think i want to build a
Incubator over the winter....i have a nice rustic cedar design in my head.

Outpost, at $3 a bird I'd probably do that if I had very many to do, like a batch of CX or something. Especially with that quick turn around time!

I can only do about 2 at a time with my hands, so that keeps me slow. But since I've hatched in batches, it's not a biggie. I've got a few I'm looking at getting butchered probably this week. Feed bill is getting out of hand and I need to get rid of some birds.

That rooster got me again last night. I thought he was on the roost, but sucker ambushed me and I'm all torn up. He's in an isolation pen today and going back to his former owner tomorrow. Totally not worth it.

So, my mechanically inclined friends....Phil especially....what's your take on scheduled maintainance on vehicles? I took my van in for a 30,000 mile service. They want $300, and I still can't figure out what they're actually doing for that much. I get a lot of "inspect this" and "take the wheels off and inspect that" and "clean the battery cables"......I'm sorry, that's a lot of money for just looking at things, seems to me. I know I tend to be too tight with money sometimes, but I also know dealerships make a LOT of money on things like this. It just doesn't need to be my money.

So, am I being a tightwad? Or just not getting taken?

Well I can only say this.....to you and me $300 is alot of money.
But it really doesn't buy much at a shop.
Did they give you a itemized estimate.?
If they did review it....but regular maintenance is important.
At the same time maybe some of it your hubby can do?
Also some things are more important than others.
If you can let me know what's on the list.

Well, Honey went in and went over the list and told them what he wanted them to do, and what to skip. It's ready, so I'll get the list and post for you to take a look at later.

It's just confusing because we do the LOF there all the time, and so much of the things they wanted to do are included in the LOF, so why the $$?

And sadly, this is where I think the darn prednisone is wearing on me. That and the chemo brain, honestly I'm not sure which does which. I have trouble following what folks are trying to explain to me. I can't focus that well on new things and I often feel like a meltdown is just simmering under the surface. Trying to deal with that service adviser, and being so out of my element, I had a pretty hard time and had to call Honey for backup.

@donraeSo happy to hear they found the cause of your son's illness. What a relief! :D.

I was thinking how lucky I am that my roosters ( I think I have about 10 now) have been so good. Then tonight Mr. T decided to be super cantankerous. He absolutely would not go in the coop:barnie After chasing him around, in the mud, thru the puddles, thru blackberry bushes, getting burrs all over our clothes & hair, all the way to the neighbor's, I GIVE UP!!

It's been raining & raining & raining here. Suppose to rain more this week. Better get our boat fixed. :D. On a more serious note, prayers for all the people in Lousiana floodings.:(
