My leukemia's back.

I like that idea..... So I just close my eyes and pretend it's Jamaica.... Wow.... Jamaica smells kinda like a skunk......

Sure is quiet in my house this morning-- DH is off at work, DS is off at school and DD and SIL are (as of about 530 this morning) safely back in Ohio.....just me and the fur kids sitting around staring at each other. Not entirely complaining, after the last 10 days of pretty constant flow of people in and out of the house (my mom and the in-laws) and go-go-go activity it is kind of nice to have a little bit of calm. Oh, and surprise, it's raining -- again -- the 10 day forecast, various words for rain......blech!
On a bright note - I got a J-O-B!

All things going as planned, I should be starting on Monday. Funny thing is I am right back to working for community action programs - this time for programs for the elderly. I had a phone pre-interview, an in-person interview with four senior staff and then another interview/pre-offer meeting with the Exec. Dir. and so far have really enjoyed getting to know each of the people I've interacted with and feel really good about working with them.....and, of course, having another steady paycheck in the house is going to be a very welcome relief!
The guys made a lot of progress on the coop with SIL here to help - was really fun watching DH, FIL and SIL work together and SIL went home all excited to get some tools and start building things at he and DD's house, we may have created a monster. They want to get it out into the yard and put together (they framed it up inside the garage and have done just about everything they can for now - took it apart into panels and will reassemble outside) by the 20th because I took a gander at the order schedule for the store I'll be getting the chicks from and that is one of the weeks they'll have all the breeds I think I want at the same time, just not sure the weather is going to cooperate.
Always seems blissful yet a little bittersweet when the house is suddenly empty again, doesn't it? We DO need photos, you know, of the build and the chicks....and congrats on the job! You've told us your first impressions of them - do they know what a jewel they are getting?

I switched to Kerrigold when" they "decided it was healthier to eat butter than margarine. The catch is, just use a little butter. The regular Kerrigold is hard as a rock out of the fridge ,which lets you know it wants to clog your arteries. I get the Kerrigold w/ canola oil because it is a smidgen easier to pry some out of the little tub. Actually it has taken 5 months for me to finish the container. I just started a new one.
Use a butter bell, DD... I use mine all the time and I don't have to get a lot of butter out of the freezer at one time. Keeps it fresh, nice and spreadably soft, AND since it's soft then you know it's not going to clog your arteries like the rock hard stuff!

Doggone it - my quote thingy missed one! LG, I've never canned chicken. To tell you the truth, I've never even helped Ken butcher and skin one. My job is to clean them when he brings them in. Don't ask me how I managed it from our first pheasant hunt together (was that really 46 years ago?) but I have him convinced that I'm stuck doing the yucky part! teehee Evil me!!

On a different note, Little Miss Ashley had her last lumbar puncture today! Yippeeee! 29 more days until she rings that "last day of chemo" bell. Then it'll be recover and repair. All through this journey, the family never lost their faith....and she never lost her smile!

Ken is scheduled for shoulder surgery on the 29th, with a 10 - 15 week recovery time. Grrrrrrr

Yes, Kerrygold - do you like it ?

Okay Blooie, I'm tearing up reading about Ashley's last chemo. bless her little heart, what a journey. I'll hear that bell ringing all the way here!

OGM--congrats on the gainful employment. Oh, and on the coop and chicks, of course! I'm with you on the empty house--it's great to see them come, but kinda nice to see them go, also. I like my alone time.

I didn't have time to get the chicken done today. I'm reading it's best to partially cook it, not just raw pack. I'm never sure how to do that--it says cook 2/3 of the way done? Huh? I'll give it a try hopefully tomorrow. It also says freshly butchered, but let it chill 8ish hours. Mine will have been chilled 2 days at that point

. Maybe I'll just cook the ones I've already butchered and start over next week with the other boys that need to go. And definitely pluck!

Hope we get to see a picture of Ashley ringing that bell...it's surely a photo-worthy moment

Ok, Blooie, I'm setting up the man convalescence center now. My 3 cats are almost finished with their nursing training, they'll be working in shifts. I'm figuring while our two husband's are moaning & groaning in tandem, we can leave them to the cat's care and go out for a couple of margaritas. Does that work for you?
