My leukemia's back.

At this point in my life I should stop asking why these things happen. But, why do these things happen?
Is this a social ill? Is there a way to prevent this? It happens with such regularity now.
I read the average age of the students was 38. These were parents trying to improve their lives so the lives of their children can improve.
It is so sad.

Blooie, I couldn't help myself - that look made me laugh.

Rachel, I'm fearful as to what is going on. Off to do a news search.

10 killed 20 or more wounded.

Why DO these things happen. I can not comprehend.

I posted before reading on and seeing everyone's posts. OMG, again? Senseless.

Thank you all for the prayers. Honey works with some folks who are nursing students at Umpqua, they're all safe. I just can't get my head around it, and the poor hospital in Roseburg must be so overwhelmed. Horrible, horrible things.

I don't know if anyone has an hour to spend on this, but since the first question everybody asks is, "why?" this is a program that PBS/NOVA created in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings that attempts to address the question:

Post it notes. I write it all down and stick them all over the computer cubby.
Tried that, cat knocks them down and uses them for paper airplanes. Or, if they stay put, I can't decipher my hieroglyphics.

In a nut shell, it's a sign of the times. We're headed into some very dark days.

So I was in the kitchen fixing Kendra's lunch while she was playing with her little computer in the living room. Then I heard the sound that strikes fear into the heart of every mom/gramma/babysitter - silence. So I dried my hands, figuring she was in Grampa's office on his computer again. But no Kendra. Doggone it! I'd shut the bathroom and bedroom doors so where the heck was she? Not that many choices in this old place. Wait - the bathroom door was open? I looked in and she wasn't there. Bedroom door was still closed but I checked anyway. No Kendra. Crap! I could hear her but because I can't triangulate sound I didn't know from where! Back down the hall - panic was setting in. Nope, she hadn't magically re-appeared in the living room. I could still hear her babbling and giggling but I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE SHE WAS!! I opened the bathroom door again - and a little brown head peeked at me from between the dryer and the bathtub. Good grief!!! She was sitting IN the toilet holding the ancient plunger! When I say in "in the toilet" I mean quite literally. Her fanny was wedged in and her right leg was down in the water, along with the bottom of her bottom! Oh, this was too rich, once I knew she was safe! Ran to the kitchen, grabbed the iPad and snapped this shot before pulling her out. It was like pulling a cork out of a bottle! And the whole time she was pointing at the bathtub, saying, "Bathroom? Bath?" Uh, yeah, Kendra, now that you're wet, and chilly from that cold water a bath is probably in order. And a lock on the outside of the bathroom door, too!
