Is that a gingerbread Serenity! how cool is that?!?
Well, it's 1:30 here and our power just came on. Firs thing Sugar Monkey did was run to open the refrigerator....and immediately declared we've nothing to eat
.
since I processed the cockerels the other day, I decided last night to consolidate some birds to have one less pen for now. So I put all the young guys in together, and the one older cockerel I'm considering keeping (hereby known as Keeper, until he earns a proper name) in the main flock with my rooster Eric, and the younger "special" Faverolles cockerel Gabriel.
Well, this morning, poor Keeper. He's been at basically an all-boys boarding school all his life, and he woke up surrounded by GIRLS! And man, did he want some girls...any girl. No idea how to approach them, of course, or tempt them, or convenience them he's a hunk of manliness. He's chasing, he's grabbing, he's jumping, he's a spaz all over the place. Of course, the ladies are used to being treated very well by Eric, and they protest. And the younger ladies haven't been mated yet (I'm pretty sure), and they're really freaking out. So here comes big Eric, literally body checking Keeper off the pullets, chasing his little blue butt around the coop until he's hiding in the corner. But as soon as Eric leaves, poor Keeper's hormones kick in and all he sees is GIRLS! and it starts all over again.....this lasted about 2 hours until he got tired and decided to just hang out on one of the shelves in the coop for a while. He and Eric sure got a work out!
It was nice being down a pen to feed and water this am. We got snow for the first time this year. We usually only get snow once or twice a year. It's already melting off, which means lots and lots of water on the ground. The two older boys went out and cleared the drainage ditches and where the water flows under the fence to the neighbor's pasture. Hopefully we'll drain off some water now and be able to dry up some.
A friend had a large branch or small tree fall across her driveway, so Honey went down to help them clear it. I was going to go, but realized my breathing is so bad, I honestly wouldn't be able to do anything to help. That's a really sucky feeling. I upped the prednisone on Friday, not sure how long it takes to kick in but I'm not feeling any difference yet. Feeding my animals takes a good 15 minute recovery period. I told Honey if I stay home, at least I can pretend it's my choice to sit and not do anything. If I went with him, I'd be keenly aware I physically could not do the work, and it'd just make me feel more useless.
