My leukemia's back.

Hey Rachel....thought I'd share this with you.....today for the first time in a while I can actually take a deep breath.
I know it won't last but such a nice surprise today......

Enjoy !

I'm feeling pretty crappy this morning. No energy, kind of nauseated, lungs feel bad. I've already got an appointment for today, we'll see what they say.

All the baby chicks made it through the night, that's always a good sign

Well, I still felt bad today. But, the prednisone kicked in a bit so at least I got a lot done while I felt bad.

The Dr today said to hold the prednisone steady for a week or so. I've got an appt with the lung doctor next Tuesday, if things aren't better by then I'll up the prednisone to 40mg. The CSA level is therapeutic, so no room to go up there. My team from OHSU is coming down next Thurs, so between all these smart folks hopefully I'll feel better.

I've got almost 2 dozen eggs in the incubator that were supposed to hatch today. These were some of the eggs that suffered the power outage, so I'm not holding too much hope. No pips or anything yet.

The prednisone voted for cobbler for dessert

. Peach and raspberry. Love that stuff!

Good morning!

Rachel, hope you're feeling better today. I would have to vote for that peach and raspberry cobbler too!

Well, we've done it now.

I'm not quite sure exactly what we've done, but we now own cattle.

We've been looking at miniature cattle for a while now. Nothing seemed quite right for what we wanted. We want beef, not a dual purpose. Nothing local seemed a nice quality for a decent price. Then, I found an ad on CL for some mini Herefords, about 100 miles away. Talked with the seller and Honey hooked up the trailer and went over yesterday. He came home with 4 cows, all bred, two with heifer calves at side. That's a lot of beef on the hoof!

I didn't get any pics last night, it was rainy and they were pretty skittish about being moved. But here are the pics from the CL ad...

the calves aren't that little anymore, they're 2 and 3 months old. they've lost that pretty clean white, but they're nice sturdy beefy looking girls.

We're keeping them at a friend's pasture for now. I think we'll just grow the heifers up and see who goes at that point, we don't need that may cows, that's for sure!

That's the idea. They're not super small like Dexters or other miniatures, but they're several inches smaller than traditional Herefords. Supposed to have a proportionally larger rib eye, we'll see when we get to butchering. But we are looking at them as an investment, hopefully enough so we get free beef
