Ya'all are making me want to put another log on the fire!

The meds don't seem to be doing much for Big Boy. We'll just go along until he sees the PCP on Wed.

I'm seeing my team from the University this week. I'm just not doing as well as I had been, it's frustrating.

I'm waffling back and forth on hatching more chicks. since we'll be moving, I'd decided not to. But then.........I really would like to see what happens when you cross a Marans with a Leghorn. I'd thought the white from the Leghorn would dilute the dark brown from the Marans. But I see MPC has "Super chocolate egg layers" that sound like that same cross.......and I have both those breeds.....but it's winter, and I don't really need to be brooding chicks in the winter....wonder if I can' get a hen to go broody in Dec/Jan?
Will be praying for you and BB. Prayer for your healing, prayer for wisdom for the medical staff.

NO, NO, NO, you DON'T need to be hatching chicks now. Where do you brood them? Not in the house, I hope? Super hard on the lungs. And with an upcoming move, even harder still. So much work involved in a move. You DON'T need any more work on your plate. When I think of the effort involved in simply packing up a single room, it makes me want to go take a long, very long nap!!!

Now, Rachel............easy, girl! You'll still have the same birds to cross in a couple more months, right? I worry about you piling more on your already full plate here....
What she said. Listen to my friend. She's a smart cookie.

HI All, Glad you all are doing ok. Miss being on here. Say more in a minute...
Hi Rachel! Okay, I'll say it: Do you really want to deal with chicks right now? If you're struggling health wise, and going to move will it push you over the edge? Once you KNOW your moving date, Could you just plan backwards for having eggs ready to go for about a week AFTER you move in?? I do hope you guys get an awesome place and that Big Boy heals fast.
Anyone heard from Outpost? Or Suzie? Phil, I almost lost it with your posts a page back! And no one had a response either?? That Sour might have a good one liner but everyone was quiet. LOL! Just please don't get to excited while listening to those podcasts while hunting! THAT would be quite a story to tell! AND passed around in the Dr.'s office if something happened!

So I found out that my DH was not quite upfront with me on the finances- by about $20,000 worth of debt- unpaid rent, medical bills and other things. He doesn't really budget, drags payments out or ignores bills. Meantime I want it all in order NOW and have a "how could you do this??" type of mindset. I have asked to take over the finances and he agreed but he has yet to truly hand over the money he makes into one account so that both of us can see what is being done. The second step is me deciding to get a third job to try to get this debt off of us. I already do Rover.com dog sitting part-time- sporadic- and enjoy it and my regular 10 hours a week part time job which I also love. This has allowed me to care for our family and teens in so many ways. BUT I can't see my DH's behavior changing a ton at this time as it's been 26 years of the same stuff. Someone's got to pay those stupid medical bills that grant forms could have been filled out and money given to pay them. ugh and sigh. I didn't want to miss my last 2 guys high school years! But I feel that something HAS to be done. At this point it looks like I maybe offered another part-time job for 20 hours a week. I like the place and go for shadowing and more interviews next week. Can you all pray for wisdom & clarity? Knowing that someone has my back is a wonderful thought. Okay, having said all that, No I don't want to separate or divorce, he isn't abusive, he does love me and yes, I do wonder about all this but no, I don't hate him. We should not have had him in charge of the finances all these years but I was so overwhelmed with life, kids, multiple disabilities including mine, homeschooling, etc. and he is good with numbers.... So hindsight is 20/20 and now there needs to be a major course correction.
Hugs to all here!
Will definitely lift you and your family up in prayer. Can you file for grants to deal with medical expenses after the fact? What about negotiating with the hospital, or what ever medical providers are involved to get payments reduced, or even eliminated? PM to follow.

hb---I'd been wondering about you also, you'd been MIA. Glad you're back. Sad you're having these issues. Yeah, I'd like to

your honey for you, but I do understand. He's your honey. For better or worse, we said. It just stinks when the worse is, well, worse than you'd thought it would be

.

Definitely praying for your family, all of you.

Thank you all. I don't need to hatch right now. I am stressed by caring for the critters we already have. No business doing more now. I think it's my "wanting to feel normal" thing coming out. But I'm so darn short of breath doing just the little things.

Oh, but no chicks in the house. Ever! That's what the garage or barn is for. chicks in the house are just

, I always thought so.

Morning peeps.... Cold here last night.... But we're up to a whole 9 degrees this am. Snowing but we're not gonna get enough.... We need a lot of snow. These temperatures (-5 last night) will create havoc without a good layer of snow.

Major brrr!

Christmas of '89 we had a very unusual cold snap here - we hit 0o F, a new record low. It just doesn't get that cold here; it's actually pretty unusual for the temperature not to get above freezing on any winter day. Normally, we can grow pansies for winter color here, and when I heard they were forecasting temps in the single digits and windy, I thought, "well, so much for the flowers." At almost the 11th hour, they started talking about snow . . . I thought, "oh, good. If we can get, oh, about 6 inches, it will be nice insulation." In my wildest dreams, I never imagined 15 inches - that doesn't happen here, either! Incredible mess!

I bet the ground freezes pretty deep at -5.

In the 40s here today

Cloudy and rainy, so I'll probably be inside today. With my woodstove, I can make it as warm as toasty as I like

Hope everyone else is staying warm and dry.

Trying to feel productive. I've got feathers from the last roosters to get washed, and I may start working on the pillow. I've got feathers from I think 6 or 8 birds, should make a nice sized pillow.

Having Cheep chicken from Albertsons for dinner, so not much prep needed there. Maybe I'll bake some dessert.....

accuweather sent a flood advisory warning to my phone this morning. Tuesday to Thursday may be bad here in Woodland, CA.

Be safe, Ron.

We had some lively weather this morning that caused a tornado warning to be issued at 10:45, to run until 11:30. It was a fast moving system that was pretty much entirely offshore by 11:10. The alert system on our phones alerted us . . . . at 11:30 precisely. Oops!
