Al, sorry to hear about your dad. Have they suggested chemo, or inhibitors?
In answer to your question, I've been off chemo for 3 months now. Both times I went through chemo (2007, and recently), my D levels were fine. Last time (2007), it was a few months after the last chemo infusion that my D started bottoming out. The first time, I was on a high dose prescription of D, 3 times a week. It was not stable enough. I would be fine when I first took it, then it would slowly bottom out again, so I was depleted by the time I was to take my next dose. I went and got D3 5000 IU to take along with the 1000 IU in my multivitamin. That worked for me, so it was steady, and I didn't get the highs, and lows. After about 10 months, I didn't need the extra anymore. I guess I'm doing similar now.

That is rough. Bad enough to have it, but to have to decide on a major surgery without having an idea if it would help
Surgery as an only treatment option is not going to be recommended, since life expectancy is not very long, and the focus will now be on quality of life. Is he refusing all other types of treatment?
he is too weak from his cancer treatment 5 years ago to go through another round of chemo and radiation.

@Alaskan, I am so sorry to hear about your dad. It's never easy to get that kind of news no matter how old they are. You just aren't ready to say good bye to them. I hope the doctors are wrong and you have more time with him. Keeping you and him in my prayers.
Vitamin D. I take it over the winter months. I'm outside enough in the summer that I hope that is enough by who know. As we age our bodies change. DH had a VA doctor who was big on Vitamin D. He said no adult has enough and to prove it he ran a level on my husband. Sure enough, it was low and DH was a competitive cyclist so he was outside a lot.
Guess it's time to get back on it and calcium.

I had a few round of prescription D, but levels would slide back down until I took a D3/K2 combo. My levels are finally stable on 3000 units a day.
yeah..I had to super increase my dose... to 10,000 a day (per doctors orders) to get my levels up.
