My leukemia's back.

Good morning, Team Rachel. I'll be needing some help here. Christmas eve at my sister's house we got some troubling news about one of my nephews. Long story short: as a kid he was in a major automobile accident, multiple transfusions, Hepatitis C , liver transplant, and all has been well for many years. Now after all the years of anti rejection meds his kidneys are starting to fail as is his liver. He is on a list for a dual transplant, but ------------------

All we can do from here is pray, and you know those will be coming in buckets! What rotten news anytime, but at Christmas it's especially hard to face something like this. Hugs, my friend!!

LG, if you want your "usable parts" to go on without you, why not sign a donor card? My understanding is that several organs are time critical and waiting for the next of kin to give the go ahead might be too late.

Personal question that need not be answered of course.

PM in detail. Short answer for this thread: I've seen too much of the medical system in action to trust it with my end of life decision.

I've tried to set the example for my grand kids much to the chagrin of their parents. :p

It's said that the reason why kids get along so well with their grand parents is b/c they both have a common enemy.

Blooie, I'd have loved to be there to see Kenny's face. That gift was a priceless choice! It would most likely be a very practical gift for any home owner.

You can just switch out the 'children' to 'grandkids' in your case Sour:

Prayers for your nephew, Sour. We did lots of liver/kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants where I used to work. So many stories of life and hope, sorrow and loss.

It was very rare that organs from a donor at our hospital went to a recipient at our hospital, because the list is magaged by a third party network. This is to prevent any appearance of conflict of interest.

I loved being a transplant nurse. It was very rewarding.
