Fabric is too expensive and quilts take so long to make they are not worth making to sell. But i do sell wood burned items.

It's wonderful to have family come for the holidays, when possible.

DD #1 and her 3 kids came, of course, but this year I was able to have my oldest granddaugter spent the night after Christmas with us. It was wonderful. We built a nice fire outside, and I hooked up the trailer to the tractor. We roasted marshmallows, drank hot chocolate, and took hay rides.

Last night, everyone left. Dh looked around, and swore it would take us 3 months to get the place back in order. I laughed. Yes, it will take me a couple days to get things cleaned up, and back in order, but that's not too bad considering I had 5 people here, and 4 of them were kids. The kitchen is in pretty good shape. I've got some clutter to clear off the counters, but that seems to be ongoing. I'll do the bathrooms tonight, and the dusting. Tomorrow night, I'll vacuum again, and use my floor machine to scrub the floors. That's about all that has to be done. The laundry is all done.

This weekend, I'll do the first dose of wormer on my chickens. A couple are beginning to lay again, so before they all get back into full swing, I want to get that done. I hate having to toss eggs, so now is the best time to worm them.
I love having the family home, and the commotion and chaos that goes with it. And when they leave, I can't help but sigh a huge sigh of relief. The house is mine, once again!

@getaclue I can so relate to counters never being cleared off completely. It makes me crazy....but when you have a houseful of company it seems like that's the first place we lose control.
Yep, I get the flat spots cleaned off and looking nice, and then *they* walk in the door. Bags on the counters, bags on the tables, bags wherever else they land. Sigh. At least they have a place to put their stuff... (Seriously, I'd much rather have my family home than clean counters! :))

Cheer up, Misty - into each life a little rain must fall.....

Usually followed by hail and damaging winds. <sigh> :he Hope the rest of your day goes better!

Some days I'd have to think about that family vs counter thing, @bobbi-j - not many, but they do happen. But I do what you probably do...roll my eyes and just get on with it, penalizing them with plenty of hugs!

Exactly! They all live far enough away that they don't come home very often (two sons and families are 3 1/2 - 4 hours, the other one is 2 1/2 hours away). So, yeah, deal with it and move on. And tell them when they need to clear it off again so we can fix food or eat! :D

Hey, it's @CapricornFarm 's birthday. Happy Birthday, Cap. :celebrate

And another opportunity to say Have a Happy Cap!

I did at first, Debby. Around 11 last night not so much. <sigh>

Little Diane and Pete made it home safely around 1:30 this morning. They beat the storm heading in, and that's all I cared about. They only had one incident - they got pulled over while Pete was driving, 12 miles from the WY/SD state line, for expired tags. At first she argued with the trooper about it, so he made her get out of the car and look at her tags. Yep, expired the end of November. <Head slap!> She had the new ones and the new registration - sitting on her counter along with the box of Christmas gifts they were bringing back for the little ones. Pete thought she put the tabs on and she thought he did. But the funniest thing was trying to convince the officer that she really was 23 years old. He was concerned for her welfare and safety because she looked so young. As I said, Pete can be kinda scary looking with the dreadlocks, his height, and all the tattoos. So the officer was concerned that she was under-age with a fake ID, being across state lines with this odd looking dude. He called in her information to verify it. He gave them a warning ticket - and then chuckled and gave her a candycane too! Said he couldn't resist...he keeps a box full of them in his patrol car for kids when he pulls a car over. She said Pete grumbled the rest of the way into Sheridan because he didn't get one. Only in this family.
Put a smile on my face.

Sounds like so much fun... Love having family together!
I prayed for 3 years for this place. I had a goal in mind. A big part of that goal, was making great memories for my grandchildren. Yes, I want to pass on teaching my own grown children to grow a garden, raise chickens, can, freeze, and store food, but that was not my only goal. It's important to teach children that fun is not just pre-canned for them. They don't need a genuine superman cape, or hulk hands. A towel secured with a clothespin, and some imagination work better. Work gloves, and imagination make wonderful hulk hands. A fire, while learning to be careful, is a wonderful way to cook food, and it tastes delicious. Having fun in the country is different from having fun in the city. They need to learn both. They also need to learn that physical labor is part of life, not just sitting in front of a tv screen, playing games, or on a computer.
So true... From age 1-7 that's how I was raised... Life was a video game, everything revolved around the tv, or hanging out with friends till we moved to 3-acres...

I am very thankful my dad and mom noticed what needed to change! By age 11 I and my siblings milked 2-goats twice a day, fed 50 chickens, and helped in the garden! Loved that way of life... Wouldn't change it for anything!

And now we will be owners of 5-acres with everything to do what we love doing!
