No insurance kinda thing.
Just replacing a bunch of pipes now.
I've got water to the kitchen and the shower.
By tomorrow I'll have it all replaced with PEX and problem solved.
I don't use heat tape here.... But my pipes rarely freeze...... The problem this year was the sub zero weather came while there isn't much snow on the ground yet.
So I haven't got the house banked up.
But I'm removing as much copper as I can.
Replacing with PEX. So next time it freezes it won't burst.

Good morning Team Rachel. I have to go see my oncologist this morning. Just a routine visit, nothing special, but it's way across town, so not exactly a fun outing. After that, I'm going to get more groceries. DD #1 and the kids are coming back this afternoon to spend the weekend with us. The kids start school next week. They only got a week for Christmas vacation, not the normal two weeks. Maybe that's going to be the new normal, but I don't like it. It could be that due to Irma, and the kids having to stay home during that time, they had to cut the holiday vacation time short to make up for the days they were out then.

That way there is no question as to "ask/don't ask". One kid in DW's class had a full beard at 14 and was buying beer. That store gave people a free 6 pack on their 18th BDay. He didn't collect his since he'd been buying it for 4 years. Guess he didn't want to out himself.

Rather than risk accusations of being - ah . . . "age-ist?" - the stores around here card everybody. It may be a bit silly for some who are clearly well into their senior years, but they figure that anyone who gets offended is evidently just looking for a fight.
