My leukemia's back.

My ex son-in-law went to trade school to study to be an automotive service tech. I had a nice home in KY, but was still living in FL at the time. Our local car repairman had been trained by, and worked for Ford. He was the head service tech. at the local Ford dealership. When he retired, he was driving his wife crazy, and needed something to keep him busy, so he opened a local repair shop to give him something to do.

He was seriously good, so his shop grew, and grew. Eventually, he had 8 guys working for him, and his place was busy all the time. He and my dad became good friends. When my ex son-in-law continued his education, and got to a certain point, the man offered to recommend my (not an ex at the time) ex son-in-law to go be trained by Ford, and get certified by them. He told my ex son-in-law that when he finished, he could pretty much write his own ticket at that point.

The old man told him he was getting older, and less able to keep up working, so if he'd do that, he'd hire him to take over running his place, and pay just as much as the Ford dealerships would pay. It was a sweet deal, especially since I had a big empty house up there, that they could live in. When my ex son-in-law, who was still living with his family at the time, told his parents about the offer, his mother didn't want her baby moving so far away, and cried about it. His dad didn't care either way, but eventually his mother made such a fuss about it, he declined the offer. He's never made much of himself, either.

What no one knew, when the old man made the offer, he had recently been diagnosed with cancer. He was actually looking for a candidate to not only take over running his business, but to leave the whole thing to. His wife was very well set, and they didn't really need money. They had no kids, so he wanted his business to continue as his legacy. That's the opportunity that my foolish ex son-in-law turned down, so he could stay with his mommy.
:hmm
I would have jumped on that one.
Where I screwed up was....I was Asked by Northern Michigan University to take over the automotive program.
Unfortunately I was short sighted when they said I would have to start part time first as it transitions.
And the next year when Steve retired I would go full time instructor.
I thought the year at part time would be too much to endure as I wasnt on finacially great ground at that time.... That his would have been great... Like running a giant hobby shop teaching kids.

Must have had a large rout, she got pregnant with the first in IL and then pregnant with the next 8 in various parts of SD. I have never heard of a mailman having a rout that spanned several states, and that made "special" deliveries when the husband was having lunch with his wife and kids...
Maybe he worked for Amazon

Folks things happen for a reason, we may not know what the reason is in this life, I started reading then posting in this thread. Now I know why I was lead to this thread in this forum. about an hour ago I got word my SIL was diagnosed with leukemia. She is in the hospital fighting an infection brother was tight lipped until earlier today that she was sick she was admitted last Monday night. I guess knowing I was sick and caring for our mom who has dementia and got sick also with a cold after I got over it. when he told me she was hospitalized and gave me a few details about her illness blood born cancer was in the forefront of my mind because he told me her body was not fighting back and she had low immunity and they were banning all visitors.
Wow... They never banned visits for me. Even when I was in that "sealed HEPA filter room".
I was able to walk the Halls (not that I was able too) if the seventh floor.
Although I was suited up with a face mask and over clothes.
Until they found out I had some antibiotic resistant bacteria. Then I was in jail.
I pray she'll be okay..... What I learned was Leukemia is NOT ..I REPEAT NOT.....a death sentence.
Tell her to fight hard.... She can do this.

Phil, I can understand your concerns about income, and why you would pass up the opportunity. One has to consider all aspects, before jumping into big changes, and income is a priority.
You know though... If I would have thought it out....I could have done it.
Just seemed like a long time to try and "get through it"

Funny how the viewpoint of time can change as you get older. When you're young a year seems like a long time...when you get older a year doesn't seem to be so much.

My mother had leukemia when she died. She did not die from the leukemia, but from a reaction to one of the medications they gave her to help with the side effects from the treatment they were giving her.
It's been the cure that causes most of my health issues..... The cure is a hard a the illness. The anti rejection drugs are hard on you

what many people do not realize is no matter the form of cancer chemo IS POISON literally I do not say this to scare people, it is getting to a very perfect science that is getting more and more perfect but they are literally poisoning the part of the body that is malfunctioning (the cancer, it is literally a part of your body that is not functioning properly it is in attack mode to the healthy parts) this is a generic explanation but valid in most cases....
