A RIR, BLACK SEXLINK, and an EE. Good layers, and a blue egg to boot. Only a year old. Have been watching our local ads on line. Nice healthy birds. You know I'll get a photo or two. It's so good to hear their sounds again.

Getting our chicks in May. By then things should be slowing down. We figured that 3 weeks with Mama Heating Pad, having the big feeder filled, using the 5 gal waterer with nipples, and them not laying yet would be easier on Katie if we did have a couple of days away here and there. All she has to do is check the food and water and top off if necessary, and she can do that every few days instead of having to be here twice a day for egg gathering too. June will be tight - lots of out of state stuff then, and for 11 days of that Katie will be with us. But Jenny thinks she can handle that. They’re gonna have 5 days where 5hey will be completely on their own because for Ken’s Grand Lodge in August the whole family is coming too. But they should do perfectly well with an additional feeder and waterer.

I got Light and and Buff Brahmas and Easter Eggers, of course. And Cream Legbars, Black Jersey Giants, Blue Splash Marans, and Speckled Sussex. We got two of each. The coop and run need a little work, sitting idle for two years, but it’s all cosmetic and housekeeping. That doggone run sits like a rock through whatever Wyoming weather throws at it. We did notice a few mousies when we were out there this weekend, so they will have be evicted (read “smashed flat with heavy shovels”) then we’ll find out where they’re getting in and close that up, and the landscape fabric is looking ratty. Other than that, we’re ready. This batch we’ll raise in the coop with MHP instead of in the run, since there are no adults to introduce them to and we can close it better against thunderstorms. I’m getting cautiously excited. Part of me isn’t real sure I want to go through the care in the misery of deep winter. But that’s all part of it, right?
