My leukemia's back.

We don't drink coffee, but most of my family does so we bought a Keurig-ish machine so they can have coffee at holidays. I don't remember the brand. It has a small carafe that you can brew into, or you can put your coffee mug under the spout. It has many settings: Light/Medium/Dark, coffee/tea/hot water and size: 8 oz/10 oz/ 12 oz/ 1/2 carafe/whole carafe. It has a holder for the single use cups, a basket for regular ground coffee and a funnel for just hot water.
We use it for hot water - especially during the winter when I have Tom & Jerry mix in the freezer, lol. I am trying to force myself to drink tea but I don't really like it. I do like hot chocolate and instant is convenient. I also use it for hot water for recipes when I am cooking.

I roast my own coffee beans and have a tea kettle for heating coffee. I have:

I can make smaller pots of coffee if I want. I used the last one, a moka pot this morning

Gac I was thinking of using a coffee machine to do as you described the pyrex setup to a tee. But I have seen directions on boxes of tea to make teas with the bags in the basket brew it and do the rest like you do. why I was concerned about coffee taste in the tea I went to a meal that was at a catering venue and the staff made the tea that way and used a pot that retained the coffee flavor, not what I wanted when I really wanted ice tea on a warm afternoon, and got a iced tea/coffee (gag gag gag) experiment.

I know that on most newer gas stoves it's electric ignition, but I also know the pilot lights may be set up different on older stoves but I always wondered if someone couldn't make "sun tea" without the sun just put the tea bags in a large glass jar of water with the lid and set over the pilot lights over several hours to brew and not have to waste fuel or in warm weather heat the house.

Some time ago I saw something that said sun tea was not a good idea, perfect way to breed bacteria. He said you could stick the tea bags in water in the refrigerator and get just as good results without the bacteria.

Bruce I cannot remember how many times you can reuse those reusable ones, but someone told me once how many times it limited you on the package, and it still was no bargain. Maybe a couple of dozen times? I can't remember but it was like why make the effort if it was so few times? I think since the price has come down on them if someone wanted a "fancy coffee" or hot chocolate 3-5 times a week it MIGHT be as cheap to buy one and use it compared to a gas station/fast food version of a starbucks, and far cheaper than a starbucks. but for a cup of regular coffee I'd get your version. in order to not spill everywhere I wonder if an old measuring cup with the lines wore off and a wax pencil mark(s) on the side for water level for your cup(s) might not work you can nuke the water bim bam boom... BTW O am considering buying a coffee maker, a 10 to 12 cup one so I can brew ice tea with it, and use it for making hot water for instant soup or potatoes etc etc etc I wouldn't keep the tea in it I don't want coffee or tea flavor stuck in the pot
My Teavana has an embossed picture on it and as it happens filling it to the small circle on the top of the picture is JUST the right amount for the mug I am allowed to use for coffee. For some reason the new one, though also purchased from Amazon, with the same maker on the box and same design has no picture.

We have an electric water heater pot thing as well. No reason to get a coffee maker with all the settings and timers and filters and stuff to heat water that will be put in something else for use.

I can NOT see them being all that practical for a family with multiple coffee drinkers.
Unless everyone wants a different flavor of coffee. That is the only way I see Keurigs as useful in the home environment.

If you brew Ice tea with it and can find a simple version of a coffee maker that would make the difference between an electric kettle and a coffee maker with the coffee maker has a slight advantage.
Funny thing is if everyone wanted flavored coffee and they all used cream, get flavored dry creamer, or there are some flavor tablets you can buy and add to coffee so you can add it to a cup of standard java.

Since we don't have a Hot Pot (Electric Hot Water Thing), and we HAVE to have a Coffee Maker for holidays, we have a single unit that can do it all. It also has a water tank with a filter. I found a picture of it. Only one unit on the counter taking up space.
